Who we are
I co-founded Davis-Bartlow Gallery, an importer and distributor of 19th C. British and Irish oil paintings in 1972. Over the next 5 years I researched and priced over 1000 oil paintings. I completed my BA in History of Art in 1977, and moved to Chicago and became immersed in the graphic works of Picasso, Chagall, Miro, and other Modern and Old Master Artists while an associate at a Michigan Avenue gallery. I then joined Samuel Stein, a major dealer in Contemporary Master graphics and paintings by emerging artists. As known experts, we were often sought out for value estimates by art appraisers.
I have been a full-time appraiser since 2010.
Peter Bartlow with Apollo 13 Commander Jim Lovell. The occasion was my appraisal of Commander Lovell’s collection of space memorabilia and a 20-foot-wide painting depicting Apollo and his three horses. The painting was given to the health center that bears his name.
Peter Bartlow has been actively engaged in acquiring, selling, researching and appraising fine art since 1972.
Education — B.A. in History of Art.
Professional Experience — More than fifty years working directly with artworks and art markets, including appraisal, authentication, acquisition and sale.
Areas of Experience — European and American art; 19th- and 20th-century British art; Post-War abstraction; Contemporary art; Pop Art; and Modern Master prints.
Appraisal & Authentication — Work performed for private clients, law firms, banks, insurers, auction houses and the FBI.
